Out of Town Plastic Surgery Patients

Coming to Boston

Many patients from the New England states come to visit Dr Volpe for his expertise in cosmetic surgery. However we also have visitors from elsewhere in the country and international visitors from Europe, Asia, and South America come for treatment. Our staff will work hard to help with arrangements for those coming from out of town.

Boston is truly an international city, with numerous options for sightseeing, lodging and dining. It is one of the oldest cities in North America and has a rich cultural history, known for its museums, universities and hospitals. Our offices in Boston and in Newton are both under 15 minutes taxi drive from Boston Logan International airport and about ten minutes from the downtown center. The offices are also conveniently located close to the major access highways to Boston.

Several hotels close to our Newton and Boston offices, and St Elizabeth’s Medical Center offer discounted rates for patients. Many cosmetic surgeries are typically day surgery procedures but overnight stays can also be arranged, especially for that first night of care. We are also able to help out with transportation arrangements.

For complete concierge service we work with Hotel Recovery, an organization that can arrange anything from lodging and transportation to post surgical nursing or personal attendant care.

Your consultation

Nothing can replace an in-person consultation prior to surgery to determine if you are a good candidate for certain surgical procedures. A good physical exam is always in order to determine skin and muscle tone, elasticity, and many other factors that can not be captured in a photograph or Skype video. Consultations and physical exams should not be performed on the day of surgery and you should plan you travel accordingly.

However, in this world of easy internet and phone communication, much can be determined prior to your visit. Email, Skype and phone discussions can help you decide if you wish to pursue your needs further. One should also bring records regarding any significant medical issues. If you have had previous surgery in the area of your interest, you should make all effort to obtain the Operative Report of your previous surgery- this can be obtained from the Medical Records department of the hospital or clinic where you had your procedure, or from the original surgeon.

Do remember when scheduling your travel arrangements that early postoperative care is usually needed- stitch removal, bandages and such. There are also recommendations for minimum time after surgery for safe air travel; in general, for most cosmetic surgery one should not travel for 5 to 7 days.
